Full Text

RIOT.—Between twenty and thirty Irishmen employed on the fortifications erecting in this harbor, assembled on the Long wharf, last Sunday afternoon, just before meeting, and the whole gang immediately fell to fighting. They fought with violence for a considerable length of time, when the civil authority interfered and lodged the ringleaders of the mob in Jail. It is to be hoped that a severe punishment may be visited upon the heads of those who shall again presume to trespass upon the peace of the community in such an outrageous and disgraceful manner, more especially upon the Sabbath.
