Copy of a letter from Phillips Cosby, Esquire, to James Duff, Esquire, His Britannic Majesty's Consul at Cadiz, dated Turkey, Gibraltar Bay, June 23.
SIR,
My return from the several ports of Barbary affords me great pleasure, in announcing to you the prayers of Great-Britain and the renewal of friendship between the two; and the trade of his Majesty's subjects may follow its usual course without apprehension or dread of danger. The several ports of Barbary are free and friendly disposed to the entrance of any ship or vessel, and I have been assured, that no interruption will be given by any of the cruizers belonging to the states of Barbary.
I am to desire you to make the same known to all the trade within your district.
I have the honor, &c.
Extrait from Consul Maira's letter of June 14, from Tangier.
"The Emperor has sent an order that all English ships are to be well received, and treated with distinction:--If they have any merchandize, it is to be landed, and great civility shewn the merchants. All are to take in what refreshment they please."
