TO IRELAND.
The pure living stream of benevolence, which has been gushing from all parts of the United States, for the benefit of the suffering poor of Ireland, still flows unceasingly--the Committee being in daily receipt of great supplies of provisions.
The letter from Messrs. Bewley and Pim, from the Central Relief Committee, will explain the good already done, and the continued need of help; although, with the new harvest now in progress, and with the aid of the permanent means of relief to Ireland adopted by the British Government, it may be anticipated that further contributions from this country will not be indispensable.
With this letter came out a detailed statement of the proceedings of the "Central Relief Committee." This is a long and somewhat intricate document, of numberless figures, and must detail but the comparative result of American and British benevolence which found its channel and outlet through this Committee, which may be stated in a few lines, and they are most significant. Here they are-
Total amount of Donations in money received from the U. S., to this date, (July 10th) 7th mo., 10th, 14,691 13 8
Estimated value of Bread Stuffs received or advised from the U. S. to same date. 95,132 2 0
£109,823 15 8
Total amount of Donations of money received in Great Britain and Ireland, to this date, £44,008 4 1
Thus we find that up to the 10th ult. (and the cargo of the Macedonian frigate and other cargoes reached the Committee after that date) a sum from the United States equalling five hundred and fifty thousand dollars had been distributed by the hands of the Friends' Committee, while up to the same time through the same Committee, whose purity, impartiality, zeal and fidelity could not be questioned-not more than two hundred and twenty thousand dollars had been received and distributed from all Great Britain and Ireland.
The U. S. may rest on this state of facts. It is however to be added that there were other agencies, of the Church and of the Government, for distributing the contributions of the English, of which the operations and extent are unknown to us.-N. Y. Cour. & Enq
