A Peddler Remits a Handsome Sum to American Dealers.

The chief reason, and in fact the only one given by the cloth peddlers who have been infesting the city for two weeks, for making such a killing sacrifice of their goods, has been that they were "imported," and that they could not be sold in a dull market or returned to the old country because of the McKinley tariff.

Tuesday morning a member of the gang, a ragged Arab who could hardly speak a word of English, exhibited to Agent Slade of the United States Express company receipts aggregating $250 which he had sent to a New York cloth manufacturer for goods shipped here.
