At Worcester assizes was tried a remarkable cause, wherein a young woman of Elmley-Lovett, was plaintiff, and a Gentleman of the same place, defendant: The action was brought by the plaintiff for a promise of marriage made to her by the defendant when she was but at the age of seventeen years, and it being accompanied with some aggravating circumstances, the jury, after a trial of thirteen hours, withdrew, and, laying out about a quarter of an hour, found a verdict for 500l. damages, besides costs of suit.
