Full Text

While we do homage to that guardian of American freedom, the liberty of the press, says the Windsor (Vermont) paper, in speaking of the conviction of M. Lyon, we rejoice in every measure which has tendency to restrain its licentiousness; convinced that if the people of America should be deprived of this invaluable birth right, it would be by those who abuse the sacred privilege of free discussion. The conviction of Mr. Lyon we hope, may prove in the end a noble triumph of liberty, and our equal laws over that most idle spirit of opposition to government, which is at the present moment, the heaviest curse of America.
