The Federal Trade Commission does not hesitate to charge Andrew W. Mellon with being the head of the aluminum trust. In the Senate there have been many bitter attacks on Mr. Mellon over tax matters, and Senator Couzens of Michigan has challenged the accuracy of Mr. Mellon's own tax returns, and has asserted that the Secretary of the Treasury is afraid of a show-down on his own taxes. Besides this, Mr. Mellon is accused with being the modern Mark Hanna of politics, into whose sympathizing ear "big business" whispers its wants. Mr. Mellon is the only man in national politics who competes with President Coolidge in the economy of speech. He doesn't talk back very much, but occasionally he fights like a lion. He does not seem to be very much disturbed by the fact that political and government interests are making a target of him.
