SOUTH CAROLINA.

The truly gratifying intelligence has been received, that a reconciliation has taken place between the two contending parties in South-Carolina; a compromise having been effected by mutual concessions honorable to both. The committee on federal relations, to whom had been referred sundry memorials from citizens of the state, made a report, in which the "test oath" was explained as not intended to impose any obligations to the state inconsistent with those imposed by the constitution of the United States; but merely to secure fidelity of conduct on the part of an officer of the state while he continues in office. The report was adopted in the Senate by a vote of 36 to 4, and in the House of Representatives by a vote of 90 to 28. This explanation having been sanctioned by both houses, the Union party declared their acquiescence to the adoption of the Oath of Allegiance. Both parties appear to hail with much good feeling and sincere joy, this termination of their long and unhappy discord. And as evidence of the cordiality which almost in an instant diffused itself over the benches, it is mentioned that the election of governor came on immediately, and Mr. M'Duffie received almost an unanimous vote. Every true patriot will rejoice that peace and harmony is thus again restored to this member of our Union, and will join in the prayer that they may long remain a united and prosperous and happy people.
