NEW REQUEST MADE BY PUBLIC SERVICE

By Special Correspondent.

TRENTON, Aug. 6:-The Public Service Railway Company, through its counsel, L. D. Gilmour, today filed an application with the Board of Public Utility Commissioners, asking to increase its trolley fares from five cents to seven cents on all its lines. The company gave two reasons for its application: First, that its outlay of wages for its employes has been considerably increased by the decision of the war board, and second, that the firm desires to accumulate a surplus to maintain its credit.

President Slocum took occasion to rap the officials of the company for reopening the case and intimated that the commissioners were going to take a vacation. However, he declared that the board would take the matter into conference and set a date for the hearing.
