Excelsior Loan Association.

The regular monthly meeting of the Excelsior Loan Association was held last night in the Hawkins building. This loan has been well managed and the gains have been steady, but not large, as money has not commanded the high premiums that were paid some years ago. Last night the receipts from various sources were $1,000. This sum was divided into three parts, $500 for the redemption of certificates, $500 to sell to the highest bidder and $500 to pay to rotating shareholders. Chairman John P. Springer, acting as auctioneer, knocked down the $500 offered for sale at a premium of 8 per cent. Some years ago premiums were paid of 20 to 25 per cent. A suggestion was made that the association should merge with the Equitable, and a committee consisting of the president, secretary and treasurer was appointed to consider the matter. The annual meeting will be held on Tuesday evening, the 24th inst.
