A shocking and melancholy affair happened at Albany on Saturday the 3d inst. about half after 7 o'clock in the morning, by Joseph White, merchant, committing the act of suicide; he did it with a pistol, loaded with two balls, which he discharged under his right ear.--The jury brought him in a Lunatic: The following is a copy of a paper he left upon his counter, viz,
My Boy's trunk and cloaths is up stairs, which please to let him have, and beg every body to be kind to him, for he has been very good to me.--God put it in my power to get over all this past illness on Sunday the 21st of this inst. July, by a breaking out all over my body; but I immediately cut off my hair close, which gave me cold, and all struck in again, and caused me to be worse than ever, and seeing no view but that of being miserable, has induced me to take this resolution.
Albany, Tuesday, near 3 o'clock, P. M. I have taken a Resolution to make away with my life, which is a vast burden and pain to me, having not known one moment's rest upwards of fourteen months, therefore hoping forgiveness of the act and all my former sins, through the merits of Jesus Christ, and hoping to find more ease and comfort in the next world than I have in this; so farewell to this world and all friends,---and adieu to this world.
