SUNDAY SCHOOLS.--We published in our last number an article on the subject of Sabbath Schools-a subject which we propose at the suggestion of a number of our patrons, to continue by making such selections and incidental remarks as will best serve to promote the cause. Sunday Schools, are now, we believe, pretty generally established throughout the country, and the inestimable benefits which have universally resulted from them, fully shows the importance and necessity of endeavoring to encourage and cherish this highly useful mode of disseminating the blessings of Education. Mr. Guild, the gentleman who is engaged as Instructor of the Public School, has been very active in aiding to establish a permanent Sunday School in this town, and has so far succeeded that he has already commenced with about 80 scholars, at the Public School Building. Mr. G. it must be admitted is justly deserving the generous thanks of this community for his unremitted and successful exertions in the advancement of this School-a school which cannot fail to be attended with many gratifying and beneficial results.

The following is the Report of a Sunday School, established in Reading Township, Perry county, lately made by one of the Directors (Thomas J. Davis.)'It was sent to us says the Lancaster Ohio Gazette, by a friend, with a request to publish it, together with the reflections which follow it. Although it may not be interesting to all. yet some of our readers will perhaps be pleased with it, and by seeing what the exertions of a few individuals can do, may perhaps be stimulated to "go and do likewise."

[Here follows a list of 53 scholars, which are divided in 6 classes, 3 of boys and 3 of girls. Annexed to each of their names are the number of verses which they have committed to memory from Scripture, since the establishment of the School-some of them varying very materially from others; the smallest number being only 7 verses, and from that to 3,604 verses!-averaging in the aggregate about 275 verses to each scholar

With what delight must every christian soul take a survey of the rise and progress of the Sunday School system. Since the establishing of the Sunday School in this neighborhood, some eighty children have been every Sabbath day collected around the fountain of celestial truth, to remove the abhorrent evils of sin and vice, which have become so prevalent in our country. In the short space of three months, 14557 verses of scripture have been committed by the scholars of this school, and by one individual the great number of 3,604!--What a reflection for the moralist and christian-- for the patriot and philanthropist! What a lovely scene for the enlightened imagination to range over! Indeed, contracted must be the mind. and cold the heart, that can find nothing here to call forth its raptures. We should acknowledge with gratitude that much and pleasing has been the effect of past exertions; but perhaps very few years may elapse, before the historians of the times will look back to view the progress of Sunday Schools, and sum up all that is now on our records as but the beginning of the work, and altogether unworthy to extend beyond the first pages of its history. Should not every person, and especially those who possess the fundamental principles of religion, unite in promoting an institution, that will allure thousands of children from idleness and vain amusements to the place of worship, learn them to read the word of God, to reverence the name and lisp the praise of JEHOVAH.
