The Earl of Granard is strongly worked upon to accept of the Government of New-York, but stands out upon Conditions of holding it in as advantageous and honourable a Shape as most of his Predecessors; and as part of it has been taken off, and erected into a separate Government, in lieu of which they grant him his Flag at 50 s. per diem; nothing sticks with him at present but the Command of the Troop; unless the present Uneasiness of our Merchants on Account of the Spanish Depredations bring on a War ; and in such Case, a separate Command at Sea would be more his Choice; Sir Charles Wager has wrote earnestly for him; and he goes from hence next Week.
