The Spanish Government Tries to Buy
Chilian War Vessels.

Newcastle-on-Tyne, Nov. 28.—From reliable sources it has been learned that the Spanish government asked Chili to sell the new cruiser Esmeralda, 5,000 tons, twenty-three knots, also the small battleship Congreso, both of which will be ready to sail for Valparaiso next month. The Chilian cabinet informed the Madrid cabinet, through the medium of the Spanish minister at Santiago, that the proposal could not be entertained.

Similar advances by Spain were made looking to the purchase of four fast torpedo catchers built for Chili at Yarrow's yard on the Thames.
