BOSTON, November 11. On Wednesday evening last arrived in town, from New-York, the Hon. NATHAN DANE, Esq. one of the Delegates from this Commonwealth to Congress—And on Thursday afternoon, agreeably to desire, Mr. Dane, made an oral communication to the Hon. Legislature, of information on several important points. As far as we can recollect the substance of this communication, was, That all the states, had acceded to the requisitions of Congress, respecting the Impost, except two, who, it was expected would immediately accede to the same. That all but two states had empowered Congress, so far to regulate commerce, as to prohibit the importation of foreign goods in British bottoms:— That had it not been for the hostile appearances in the Indians, 7,000,000 acres of the land belonging to the United States would now have been surveyed, and ready for sale, purchasers for which being numerous—But that about half that number of acres were now actually surveyed, and when sold would greatly reduce the Continental domestic debt.—That Congress had quieted several of the hostile tribes—but a spirit of opposition yet appearing in others, to protect the Surveyors in the execution of their business, and the inhabitants, Congress had thought proper to augment the federal forces.—And that the Insurrections in this Commonwealth had given much uneasiness to the United States, all of whom considered themselves interested in the preservation of our constitutional rights—and who could not be tame spectators of their overthrow by an armed banditti.
