Full Text

13. The following are some further particulars of the retaking of the ship Audrey from New-York. The two gentlemen and the two boys rose upon the Frenchmen, and an attack began about seven at night, and lasted till nine in the morning. In the fray three of the Frenchmen were killed, and the other nine surrendered themselves. The gentlemen behaved with great humanity to the Frenchmen after they had gained possession of the ship, in dressing their wounds, &c. notwithstanding the ill treatment they had received from them at the time of their being taken. Stripping them of every thing that was valuable, and even their wearing apparel. This treatment was the means of kindling a fire in their breasts against them, which put them upon this desperate design of being revenged. Had they been defeated they could expect no mercy.
