"Hampton, October, 4.
"The supposed British tender, which I lately informed you had entered Back River, proves to be the schooner Susanna, captain Anderson. She had sailed from Baltimore, bound for some port to the Northward, in ballast and under Swedish colors (being last from St. Bartholomews) but was turned back by the British squadron, and prohibited going either to Norfolk or Hampton though permitted to proceed any where else in the Bay. Her captain and crew have been taken possession of by our troops and she will, I expect be ordered to Norfolk.
"Captain Gordon passed through this place to Norfolk this morning, to take command of the Constellation."
