SALEM, May 22.

The intelligence of a great earthquake in the island of Sicily, lately received here by the ship General Galvez from France, and inserted in our paper of the 1st instant, is confirmed by Capt. Bull, arrived at Philadelphia from Marseilles. He informs, that about the latter end of February, that island was visited with a dreadful shock of an earthquake, by which a great part of the town of Messina, with a number of the neighbouring villages, was destroyed, and not less than 10,000 persons perished. The shock was felt for fifty leagues along the coast on the main, opposite to Sicily.
