QUERIES.

If the Committee of Safety pretend to grant leave of return to this State, to persons who were never prohibited from it ; do they not act an absurd part,

and render themselves ridiculous ?

If they grant such leave to those who have been banished by act of the General Court, do they not greatly exceed their powers, by overruling the authority of both Houses ?

Is not every such excess an usurpation of the rights of the people ? Is not every usurpation dangerous to our liberties ? Ought not every infringement of our liberties to be duly adverted to ?

Tis time that the powers of this Committee were exactly ascertained or totally annihilated ; for at present both the people and the laws, seem to be the sport of their will.
