Full Text
When Captain Macauley was taking the Newsboy out Friday afternoon, he noticed the sudden appearance of a bag from under the wharf, brought out, no doubt, by the suction caused by the vessel hauling away. It was neatly sewed up, and from one end there protruded a box that bore resemblance to a small coffin. The surface of the bag was coated with moss, which showed that it had been in the water for a long time. One of the sailors of the Newsboy remarked that he thought it was a coffin. However, there was no time for an investigation, and when Captain Macauley returned the bag was out of sight.
