THE CRISIS AT HAND
It is believed that within 48 hours the fate of the
world will be decided. What count better fared on the
western battle front is to a clash. It is not complete.
It will end when one, as the contestants is unable to
resist longer. Will it be the horde that in Naples on
the side of civilization? God forbid.
The struggle to toggle, it is beyond the power
of words to describe. On one side is a brutal strong,
relentless, autocratic government backed by the arms
spent and preparation of hate a century, determined
to gain control of the world, in order that the worst
despot the world has ever produced may go down in
history as the ruler of the universe.
On the other side is civilization. Fighting for its
existence. If the tempest with the world will be backward
four thousand years, back beyond the Christian era, back
to the time when might was right. The battle will
be fought with this case to the Germans who, for
they will continue as they did in Russia to destroy the
conquered nations.
but America will not be among the conquered
nations if the clash is lost on the western battle front.
In France America has not begun to fight. She has
only begun to prepare. The man who objects to buying
the bonds bearing 4 per cent interest now, may
have half or more of his property confiscated to prepare
the means of continuing the war if the United
States has to fight the fight which England, France
and Italy began. The man who will refuse, at this
critical time to do all that he can to help his government,
deserves what will come to him if the fight is
lost and Germany wins in Europe.
