THOROUGHBREDS UNDER THE HAMMER.

A sale of thoroughbreds belonging to P. Lorillard took place yesterday at the American Horse Exchange. There were twenty-four lots, including seven brood mares, five two-year-olds and eleven yearlings. A number of well-known turfmen was present, but the lots were mainly bought by Western and Southern buyers. Sir John Lister Kaye, of England, bought several lots. The total amount realized was $8,550.

The first lot, the bay mare, Ethel, by Saxon, Second Hand, brought $280; the bay mare Marguerite, by imported Eclipse-Merry Wife, sold for $275; the bay mare Merry Lass, by John Morgan-Vesperlight, $160; bay mare, Nell Gwynne, by Leamington-Lady Duke, $100; the bay mare Niva, by Saxon-Highland Lassie, $325; the imported bay mare Girasol, by Asteroid-Gillyflower, $305. The bay two-year-old colt Hilarity, by imported Bonnie Scotland-Beulah, excited spirited bidding, and sold for $1,050. The two-year-old bay filly, by imported Moccasin-Lizzie Lucas, brought $295; the chestnut filly Beware, by Leamington-Blairgowrie, $500; two-year-old brown colt Neo, by Saxon-Highland Lassie, $125. As a rule the yearlings brought less than $400 and a number of them less than $200. The chestnut yearling Iago, by imported Glenlyon-Betty Washington, brought $450; a chestnut colt by Glenlyon-Quits, $650; a roan colt by Moccasin-Niva, $325; a bay colt by Saxon-Lizzie Lucas, also $325; a bay filly by Glenlyon-Marguerite, $350; a chestnut filly by Glenlyon-Alice Ward, $325. The bay colt Bolivar, by Glenlyon-Notre Dame, was bid up to $825. A bay half-breed three-year-old colt brought $250.

In a sale which followed, the chestnut gelding Pawnee, own brother to Parole, was sold for $200; the chestnut gelding Sioux, own brother to Sensation, for $60; the bay gelding Pequot, by Lexington-Lulu Horton, for $115; the bay mare Rachel, five-year-old, by Bonnie Scotland-Sadowa, for $450.
