Probing The Fire

CONGRESS been adjourned, on the legislature's count,
In no inquisition's out to inquire.
So we call our city fathers on the mayor's staff on stout,
"Let's get together in probin' out this fire."

Oh you heard the skeletons rattle in the terrible trap door
When shrewd victims asked and pulled the wire.
You've seen 'em probe the sea- when airplane folks don't
come home.
But you never in your life helped probe a fire

Big skyscraper caught on blaze a skyscraper's will
Fighters fight like demons- till they tire:
Somebody finds fault and to safely cure the ill.
We're carryin' a probin' of this fire

Since we're nothin' else to do-all the election ad hatnote
Are passed an' likewise the campaign has.
With no money left to pay our bet, we cheers
To loaf aroun' here probin' on a fire
