Our Forces are every Day increasing on Account of the Army assembled by Spain on our Frontiers, which we are informed already amount to 40,000 Men.
Our Fortifications in the Frontier Towns have been examined by several experienced Officers, and are allowed to be in a good State of Defence; our Army is augmented to 32,000 Men, some of whom have already begun their March. These with the Troops and Arms, we expected from England, will enable us to defend ourselves against three Times the Number of Spaniards: Our Naval Force also is in a better State than it has been for some years past, having 8 Ships of the Line in the Tagus, all well manned, 2 of which are 74; and 6 of 64 Guns. One of the largest is gilded in a very extraordinary Manner, as if designed for the Reception of some of the Royal Family. The Spanish Ambassador has Orders to leave this Court in 2 Hours; and we expect Spain will declare War in 2 or 3 Days.
