How They Investigate.

A recent dispatch says: "The Grand Jury have been engaged for some time past in investigating certain mail routes on which Monroe Salisbury, of San Francisco, is the contractor. Among those inquired into are those from Solida to Newhall, California; Wells to Hamilton, Nevada; Fargo to Pembina, Dakota, and from Helena to Missoula, Montana. Fifteen or twenty witnesses have been examined as to the letting of contracts on these routes, and it is rumored that a presentment will be made against Salisbury this week." A witness, recently summoned to Washington from the West Side in the case of the last route above referred to, had a pleasant trip to the Capital and a delightful visit of a few weeks there. All his expenses and a per diem were paid by the government, but his evidence in the case was not required, and he was sent home without a single question being asked him before the star route tribunal.
