A New Cardinal --It is rumored that James A. McMaster, editor of the Freeman's Journal, will be made a Cardinal by Pope Pius IX. The Chicago Tribune, referring to this rumor, says: There are cardinal bishops, cardinal priests, and cardinal deacons, and of the latter class are some of the most distinguished of the cardinals. Cardinal Antonelli, one of the most notable princes of the church, is only a cardinal deacon, and instances might be given where laymen have been made deacons and immediately thereafter made cardinals.
