East German Communists Retreat from Sovietization

BERLIN, (AP) East German Communists began putting their retreat from Sovietization into action today and East Zone Premier Otto Grotewohl declared his government was "bitterly and seriously determined" to help bring about the unification of Germany now.

The text of Grotewohl's speech to a teacher's rally in East Berlin, distributed by the official news agency, ADN, said his government henceforth would "omit all measures which could disturb an understanding."

As an example, he said, "hundreds" of teachers who have lost their jobs in Communist purges would be reinstated, and a new Red law for reorganization of the high school system will not be put into effect.
