They write from Constantinople that warlike preparations are carried on with the greatest activity, and we are assured that the Turkish grand army will amount to three hundred thousand men. Provisions are excessively dear. Not only Giurgovo, but also the city of Sinope, situated on the Black Sea, in Natolia, is taken by the Russians; and three men of war upon the stocks were burnt. The island of Chios, having refused to pay a contribution of one hundred thousand piastres, has been taken by the Russians, in spite of all the efforts of the pacha of the Dardanelles and the captain pacha; three Algerine zebecks were burnt, and the other ships sent to its assistance were dispersed.
