Too Much Federal Meddling Means A Gestapo.

The Charleston News Courier says there is too much federal interference in state and local affairs.

In an editorial recently they reviewed the results of an all-day meeting held by South Carolina's Congressmen. People from all over the state were invited to appear before them and give them the benefit of their views.

The Charleston News & Courier observed:

"The mandate South Carolina's Congressmen received was this: 'Do everything possible to check the federal power over the state.'

The News & Courier enumerated three items included in this mandate as follows:

1. Determine opposition to racial rights force bills.

2. Resistance to federal aid to education legislation leading to federal control.

3. Removal of the federal government from business which is in competition with private business.

It is anticipated that Senator Hubert Humphrey's wildcats will propose the same civil rights force bills as advocated by President Eisenhower's Attorney General, Mr. Brownell, and that one of the bitterest fights of all time will ensue in the next Congress when it meets on January 3rd.

Then, it is anticipated that President Eisenhower will propose a bigger federal aid to education program than he proposed last year.

The whole idea is to destroy the power and the rights of the states.

They hope to do it by Brownell and Humphrey's force bills on the one hand and by federal aid to schools on the other.

Federal aid to schools is the most sinister of all the plans to destroy the last vestige of state and local control of public schools.

If the federal government can get control of the money with which the schools are supported, then they will be able to dictate terms to the people of the South and operate the public school system from the nation's capital.

One of the greatest fallacies of all time is that the federal government can give a state or community anything.

The federal government has nothing to give.

In order to grant aid to the public school systems it will be necessary for the federal government to levy and tax the money out of the people all over the nation and as soon as the money has been extracted from the pockets of the people then they can dole it out to the states and various communities as they see fit.

But before any of this money is doled out to the states and the various communities, the government will take its take.

The bureaucrats in Washington will get their handling charge and probably not half of the money will ever get back to the schools.

It is much easier for the various states and communities to levy their own taxes, collect their own money and operate their own schools.

The removal of the federal government from business competition with private enterprise is no easy job.

The federal government is already too well entrenched in the field of private business itself to easily turn the clock back.

However, it can be done and it should be done. Otherwise we are rapidly approaching the socialistic state where the government will control all business and everybody will work for the government.

There can be but one end to such a system and that is communism. Whenever the government owns and operates a majority of the business enterprises we have socialism. Everybody works for the government.

When enough people work for the government, the government can then take government workers, herd them together and vote them like sheep and perpetuate the party in power indefinitely for no man dare vote against the man who holds his job over his head.

When this happens we wind up with a one party system.

Now, that's Russia's system. They have socialism in Russia. The government owns everything and everybody works for the government. There is only one political party and nobody dare vote against that party.

That's communism.

Communism is the inevitable result of socialism.
