Athletic Policy
'Vague and
Uncertain'
Grand Forks, N. D., Feb. 6.-F.
A. (Tod) Rockwell, head football
coach at the University of North
Dakota for the past two years, in
a letter to President Thomas F.
Kane Saturday resigned his posi-
tion, the resignation to take effect
June 30.
In his letter, sent to President
Kane today. Rockwell says in part:
"For some time past it has appear-
ed to me that the future athletic
policy of the university of North
Dakota is too vague, too uncertain,
and indefinite. In submitting my
resignation at this time I trust that
I am giving you ample time to
choose a successor. . . . And I
believe that it is needless for me
to add, that until the time my
resignation takes effect, I will con-
tinue to do my utmost for the good
of the university."
Rockwell came to the university
in 1916 after a successful year as
athletic director at Salem college,
Salem, W. Va. Previous to that
he was an all-western quarterback
at the university of Michigan in
1924.
His two teams at North Dakota
in 1926 and 1927 won state cham-
pionships, and made strong show-
ings in the North Central confer-
ence.
In 1926, Rockwell's men con-
tributed one of the year's football
upsets in defeating Marquette at
Milwaukee.
This, the records
prove, is North Dakota's outstand-
ing all-time gridiron victory.
Simultaneous with his resigna-
tion, Rockwell announced his con-
sideration of three coaching offers,
one in the Western conference for
next fall.
