Spanish Carbineers Surrender Without Making any Resistance.
The southern part of Spain, from Gibraltar westward, along the strait and up the coast is infested with smugglers and many bloody fights have occurred between them and the coast guards.
An incident has just occurred that in some of its aspects is ludicrous. A band said to have been composed of 200 armed smugglers made a descent upon one of the carbineer stations and captured eight carbineers, who surrendered without making any resistance. The smugglers then sacked and fired the station, and, with their prisoners, made for the mountains and have not since been heard from.
