MISSED GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR AN OLD-FASHIONED RAIN

FIRMAMENT GOT BLACK IN THE FACE, BUT NO HEAVY RAIN.

Where Rain Fell, However, Much Good Was Done to Cotton and Other Crops and Ranchmen Pleased.

After a big wind and duststorm on Saturday afternoon, followed by intervals of threatening weather on Sunday, dark clouds gathered to the southward and eastward yesterday evening and indications were favorable for a time that Laredo would shortly be in the throes of a big rain and windstorm, but, alas, that word big was not qualified by the consequences.

Last night shortly before 10 o'clock a good shower of rain, preceded by a refreshing breeze from the southwest struck Laredo, but soon both the rain and the breeze had vamoosed and it was later followed by gentle zephyrs that continued throughout the night, and in the wee sma' hours of morning made covering a comfortable thing to have at hand. While no rain to amount to anything fell in the country surrounding Laredo last night, heavy rains are reported from Benavides, Realitos and other places farther to the eastward on the Texas-Mexican road toward Corpus. Where the rain fell inestimable good was done to cotton and other crops, while the ranges that received a part of the moisture will also be benefited to a great extent. Most of the oil fields had fairly good rains last Monday and Tuesday, but much more is needed there to create a sufficient supply of water for drilling purposes.
