Prairie View Confers Two M.A. Degrees

The close of the recent session of the Summer School of Prairie View State College was epoch-making, bringing in a new era in education to the college and the citizens of Texas.

For the first time in her history Master of Arts Degrees were conferred. Principal W. R. Banks conferred the Master of Arts Degrees on Mr Alvin Jones Harrison and Ms Frieda Rhone amid imposing ceremony before a concourse of citizens who had gathered to witness the closing exercises from all parts of the state.

During the same hour the Principal had previously conferred the Bachelor Degree upon 77 seniors as follows: Agriculture 9; Arts and Sciences 40: Home Economics 24. and Mechanic Arts 4.

The special sermon to the graduates was preached by Dr Charles D Hubert, president of Morehouse College, Atlanta, Ga.

The commencement address was delivered by Dr. Earl L. Sasser head of the Department of English Prairie View State College.

The Georgia prelate stressed the importance of doing justice and living humbly with God. The way to find God is through service. If you go down the lane of life doing your duty day by day, you will find God, and Dr Hubert.

Dr. Sasser made a scholarly and forensic appeal to the graduates to contribute their time and talents in promoting the welfare of humanity. He urged as a matter of right and duty, that men and women learned in the professions should tackle and solve the social problems that confront our civilization.
