BALDIES CAN'T DONATE, SCRAP DRIVE OF FINNS
HELSINKI—
There is one patriotic duty bald-headed or nearly bald-headed Finns are unable to fulfill.
The "Public Scrap" organization recently broadcast an appeal to every Finn to give every spare hair to his country. Approximately 1,300 barber shops were recruited as collection centers and within a short time 25,000 pounds of hair were gathered.
The hair was then sold to the clothing industry, and the proceeds went into a patriotic fund. It is expected the hair, when mixed with other fibers, will yield at least 60,000 meters of cloth.
The drive became so popular hundreds of persons donated souvenir locks of hair from sweethearts and babies. In Helsinki 550 barber shops are collecting hair for industrial purposes.
