Haitian Revelations
Last week the United States Senate heard from the lips of a Haitian high in the island republic's government how our country had forced a $16,000,000 loan upon Haiti to insure continued American interference. So far, there is no record of our august and non-imperialistic nation having done anything about it.
Liberal minded organizations have long contended that the United States had used strong arm tactics to keep control of Haiti, that our race had no business over there in the first place. Hoover has made something of a gesture of fairmindedness in Haiti, but it seems he is not too willing to take American hands off their affairs.
An investigation in Nicaragua and other small and weak countries which the United States has controlled would show a condition similar to that in Haiti.
Meanwhile our nation still meddles in the affairs of China and Japan and seeks to uphold the principles which she herself has destroyed in other countries.
If this nation should be drawn into the affair, it would serve us right. If we get into trouble in Haiti, Nicaragua, China, or any country not flying our flag, it's because we hunted for it.
