The Whigs of Mississippi, held a State Convention at Jackson, on the 5th inst. It is represented as a great gathering of the people, and the right spirit anointed every heart.

The Hon. Edward D. Turner, presiding.

The following gentlemen were appointed candidates for electors, in the approaching presidential contest: John I. Guion, of Warren co.; Peter B. Starke, of Lowndes co.; Alexander B. Bradford, of Marshall co.; T. Jones Stewart, of Wilkinson co.; Isaac N. Davis, of Panola, co.; Henry Gray, of Winston co.

S. S. Prentiss addressed the convention with beautiful effect. It is said to have been a "Prentiss speech—that's enough."
