THRONGS PAY TRIBUTE
TO 'BOB' LA FOLLETTE

Body Lies in State in Rotunda of
Wisconsin's Capitol at
Madison.

Madison, Wis.—Silently and reverently citizens of Wisconsin paid their tribute to Robert Marion La Follette. More than 50,000 men, women and children looked for the last time upon the thin and drawn features of the once never tiring "Fighting Bob." The body rested in the rotunda of the magnificent capitol, the structure itself a monument to the man who has now taken high place in the history of the state and nation. From noon until late in the evening the people filed by the bier.

Never before in the middle west has there been such an outpouring for such an occasion. Never before a more heartfelt, sincere tribute paid. From all walks of life, the high and the lowly, they came. From all parts of the state, by automobile, train and bus, the people came.

Senators Borah of Idaho, Moses of New Hampshire, Norris of Nebraska, Lenroot of Wisconsin, Shipstead of Minnesota, Frazier of North Dakota, Brookhart and Cummins of Iowa, Wheeler of Montana, Robinson of Arkansas, Harrison of Mississippi, Norbeck of South Dakota, Copeland of New York, Kendrick of Wyoming and Jones of New Mexico headed the list of honorary pallbearers.

The program for the funeral services was without ostentation. Admission to the capitol was by ticket, limited to the congressional delegation from Washington, the 300 honorary pall bearers, state officers, members of the legislature and the closest friends and associates of the senator.

Dr. A. E. Hayden of the University of Chicago divinity school, formerly pastor of the Unitarian church here which La Follette attended, conducted the services.

Death resulted from heart failure induced by a general breakdown and an attack of bronchial asthma.
