CARE OF COTTONS
Perhaps you've found out the hard way that some of today's cottons need special care. What with all the new fashions, it's no wonder.
Some of these finishes are plastic in character and have qualities similar to the man-made fibers. In caring for these cottons, pretreat the heavily soiled areas and use low washing, rinsing and drying temperatures. Dont wring or twist these plastic-finished cottons and use smaller washing machine and dryer loads.
Glazed chintz, polished, and embossed cottons may be washed gently by machine or hand, but don't soak. Rinse quickly in luke-warm water. Don't wring, twist, or rub. Drip dry and while slightly damp, iron glazed cottons on glazed side with a warm iron. Iron embossed cottons on the wrong side over a turkish towel so the raised surface is not ironed flat. These crease-resistant finished cottons that are so good for school need special treatment too. Pretreat heavily soiled areas before washing. Otherwise, the soil may combine with the finish during washing and become permanent.
Chlorine-type bleaches on some crease-resistant fabrics will cause the fabric to streak or turn yellow. A new kind of crease-resistant finish. however, has been developed which is not affected by chlorine-type bleaches. Look for the labels that state that the fabric resists yellowing and damage from chlorine-type bleaches.
All of one's education does not come out of books.
