It will be recollected that a claim of his for a balance as Clerk of the last Senate, was rejected in the Assembly some weeks since. This morning Dr. Hoyt moved to reconsider the vote rejecting it, making the question one of sympathy for the General, and either he or Mr. Earnest stated that the implication of bad faith upon the claimant had preyed upon his mind very seriously.— Several members expressed their willingness to do anything in reason for Gen. Smith, but that they could not allow their sympathy for him to influence their votes upon a bill which they were satisfied ought not to pass. The bill finally passed, Ayes 45, Noes 14.
The above from the correspondent of the Sentinel, shows what influences bear on Legislators.
