SHOULD BE IMPORTED.
So far no one in Tulsa has been so depraved as to have to be arrested for treasonable utterances, as has happened in some cities where the I.W.W. propaganda has its advocates, and we hope such a thing will not occur. We of Tulsa have shown that we are a patriotic people and ready to support the government and to defend the flag from dishonor. Yet there are living right here in this city some few people who, lacking the courage to get up in public and denounce the flag like some of their brethren in New York, are not above going around slyly and whispering calumny and detraction of the government and ridicule for the courageous militiamen who have left homes and business to fight for the flag.
They are telling it around that this is not a war to defend the nation's honor, but a plot of the plutocrats to exploit the Mexican people for pecuniary gain, and that our soldiers are not going to fight for the stars and stripes, but at the behest of big business. The well-known fact that there were in times of past people in Mexico who sought to embroil the two nations in trouble in order to further their own ends has lent a color of truthfulness to the claims of these enemies behind the ranks that renders their influence the more dangerous and despicable. Even if the monied interests did provoke Mexico into assuming a position of insolence
