The State forestry department has just finished making up the September pay roll for the forestry department watchmen that are to be paid by the federal government, amounting to $1143. With the payment of this amount Maine will have received a total of $5751.50 from the federal government the present season.

The department is also making up the payroll of the slash disposal wardens and that will be sent to Washington at once, amounting to about $600.

The federal government has placed at the disposal of the State an appropriation of $8000, of which $6500 is to go to the forestry department for lookout stations and $1500 to be allowed for work outside the forestry department in such fire protection work as the federal forestry department may approve.

It was stated Friday at the forestry department that it was doubtful if the project to establish a lookout station on Ossipee hill in Waterboro, attempted through federal co-operation, will be carried out for the present at least, owing to the very excessive value placed on the land needed for the lookout station by its owner.
