Full Text
On Tuesday, the 20th ult. the barn of Mr. Samuel Hutchins, a respectable citizen of Warren, Ohio, was consumed by a flash of lightning: and with the barn all its contents, most of the hay and all the grain produced by the owner's farm the present season, were consumed as in a moment.
But we have now the satisfaction to inform the public, that on Wednesday, the 7th inst. the good citizens of that place and its vicinity, actuated by that glow of benevolence which ought ever to reign in the human breast, assembled at the disastrous spot, and with a spirit of unanimity, order, activity and resolution, never surpassed, erected a new barn near the ashes of the one that was consumed. The frame, 36 feet in length and 26 in width, was taken from the stump, drawn from the forest, scored, hewed, framed, raised, enclosed with boards, shingled, the doors made and hung, and all made in a neat and workmanlike manner in one and the self-same day: and a large load of hay, the present of Messrs. Giddings and Jackson, was drawn into the barn after it was enclosed, and unloaded, before the sun went down.
