'Toy Pageant' Play Ends Summer Series Playground Today
The "Toy Pageant" will be given by a large cast of children at the city playground in the Fifteenth street park tonight at 7 o'clock. The pageant represents the culmination of the work along dramatic, dancing and handicraft lines that has been accomplished this season. When started many of the children had never been in a play and had to be given very elementary training. Although it has all been done from the recreational standpoint, they have put on some rather difficult plays.
In the pageant, Titania, the fairy queen, assisted by her fairy servants, the hours of the clock, bring to Wanda, the little girl, a series of dolls that have come alive. Wanda watches them all in turn and decides for the old doll, the one she has loved so long. Then the hour fairies run back into the clock, and just as the clock strikes one, the mouse runs in and out.
Beatrice Krentz, will be queen of the fairies, and Anne Benson will be the little girl. Hour 1, played by Helen Horrine, will bring in the nurse dolls, Joan Tibbets, Lida Branham, Doris Adair, Irene Evans, Leila Evans and Helen Nowak. This is a small group and they will sing "Rock-A-Bye Baby."
Hour 2, played by Evelyn Tyra, will bring in the Scotch dolls, Joan Stephenson, and Agnes Griffith to dance a Scotch dance.
Hour 3, played by Lorine Maybry, will bring in a group of tin soldiers, Aylene Davidson, Marjorie Davidson, Marshall Lane, Gerald Emerson, to do some drilling.
Hour 4, played by Gertrude Evans, will bring in a group of Japanese dolls, Lawana Lee, Orville Jones, Delene Rowley and Miriam Churchrard to sing a song.
Hour 5, played by Mary Frances Horrine, will bring in the Spanish doll, Wanda Childers, who will sing "Land of Spain."
Hour 6, played by Josephine Branham, will bring in some Indians, Billy Allen, Bobby Allen, Billy Stephenson, James Edwards, who start to dance an Indian dance.
Hour 7. played by Maxine Gibson, interrupts the dance with a group of cowboys, Thurston Abbot, Clinton Abbot, Jack Fray, Bobby Wenzel, Joe Gibson, G. B. Hammer and Fred Churchyard.
Hour 8, played by Betty Adair, and Hour 9. played by Irene Nowak, bring in some negro rag dolls, Luella White and Mildred Kirkpatrick who sing a negro song.
Hour 10, played by Lois Wade, brings in a tumbling clown, Jack Harter.
Hour 11, played by Winnifred Krentz, brings in a group of Paris dolls, Alice Childers, Thatis Platt, Doris Lane, Norma May Platt, who when wound up by the clown are able to walk a little.
While the fairies are dancing, Hour 12, played by Rosalie Maybry, brings in Bethlinda, the little girl's old doll. Ada Ruth Churchyard will be Bethlinda, and the fairy queen changes her clothes into magic garments.
