A BROTHER CHAMPIONS FOR HIS SISTER—BREACH OF PROMISE.
The readers of the Dispatch were furnished, two weeks ago, with an account of how a Miss Lehmann of Hoboken, punished Robert S. Idell, a teller in the First National Bank of Hoboken, for his desertion of her for another girl. Since then the young man and his furious discarded fiance have repeatedly furnished the inhabitants subject for gossip. Last Sunday young Idell attended, with his sister the services at the Methodist church in Washington street. On their return home, Idell was attacked by Miss Lehmann's brother and a young man named Scales, in the vicinity of the church, and most cruelly beaten. His beaver was most emphatically knocked into a cocked hat, and his face was scratched and marked. Miss Idell's screams brought a number of the church attendants to his rescue, and his assailants beat a hasty retreat. On the following morning Idell, before Justice Streng, charged Lehmann and Scales with an assault and battery, and on their arrest, they were required to furnish bail in $200 each, to appear for trial. Subsequently, Miss Lehmann commenced an action for damages in a breach of promise suit, which is now pending.
