Harvey Smith has been arrested at Hamilton, Canada, charged with inducing two colored men to accompany him to the United States, and sell themselves into slavery, by telling them he would divide the proceeds with them. It appears that Smith had been on a visit to New York, Baltimore and Washington, for the benefit of his health, as his brother alleged, and that the last seen of the slaves was at the time of their departure from Canada to Buffalo. The affair has created much excitement, and the police had to protect Smith from a mob.
