Railwaymen's Proposal

First of nearly seventy resolutions on the preliminary agenda of the 74th Annual Trades Union Congress, about to be circulated to affiliated unions. is a proposal from the Railwaymen's Union that the T.U.C. General Council should institute an immediate and complete examination of existing Trade Union structure.

The object of the survey, the Union proposes, should be to ascertain where overlapping and destructive competition exist between Unions, where the existing Trade Union structure is uneconomic, and where Unions within an industry are pursuing diverse policies.

This is not the only resolution which is likely to give rise to lively discussion at the Congress, which opened at Blackpool on the first Monday in September but it is one of many indications that the Trade Union executive are thinking seriously of the problems that await their attention when the war comes to an end.
