Last Friday Morning a most shocking and cruel murder was committed in this city, viz. One Swanzer, a tailor, took his own child of about three months old, out of the cradle when asleep, (the mother being gone to market) and with a knife cut its throat from ear to ear. The cries of another child that was in the room, alarmed the neighbours, and when they entered the chamber where Swanzer was, they found the murdered infant in his arms: He immediately confessed the murder, and said he had been long tired of his life, and was determined to make away with himself, but he intended that the child should leave the world before him. The coroner's inquest being summoned, and after proper enquiry into the matter, brought in their verdict, Lunacy.
