HELD FOR THEFT
Detective Sgts. James Tinsley and Anthony Zollo prevented efforts of a 13-year-old female juvenile from Oakland, Calif., to return home Tuesday night by plane when it was learned she had fled from the home of her brother-in-law and sister in Putnam. She was taken into custody at the Worcester Airport, as a result of a telephone call from Putnam, it was disclosed. When found, the girl is reported to have said she decided to return to California because her sister was "too strict." She had lived here since May, it was revealed.
Police said that early Tuesday afternoon the lassie took a check for $350 belonging to her brother-in-law and cashed it at a local bank. Later she went to Woodstock Airport and when unable to charter a plane, it was learned, hired a cab from Providence street to Worcester.
In that city it was said she purchased a ticket for California at $188.83 and then went to a theatre and on a shopping tour purchasing dresses, shoes, a hat and purse, according to police.
She was turned over to Officer Lawrence Hanley and State Policewoman Susan Kenyon of Danielson barracks and was later taken to Hartford for arraignment in Juvenile Court.
