Mountaineer Rescued
Rescuers lower a stretcher down the 400-foot sheer face of Devils'
Slide Cliff south of San Francisco for John A. Head, 21, Stanford
University student from Los Angeles after the latter had fallen while
climbing the cliff with two other mountaineers, members of the Sierra
Club. His climbing rope held and kept him from plunging into the
Pacific Ocean. He fell more than 20 feet and crushed his head.
His condition is critical. His companions were not injured. (P) Wire-
