There hath been some prospect of our government being engaged in a war with Russia; but it now seems to be the general opinion that such an event will not take place. The nation is much averse to the war--and a number of propositions have been introduced into the House of Commons, which in the most direct terms, condemn the interference of Great-Britain in that between the Russians and Turks, as impolitic, absurd, and as having a direct tendency to impoverish the nation, by destroying its commerce. The propositions were introduced by Mr. Grey, and although negatived by the call of the previous question; yet they were so ably defended in every part of the House, that the Minister has had his confidence considerably shaken. Of 426 members he obtained but a majority of 80--which is very small; considering the numbers that are usually with him.
